Their Fall Migration Begins

This morning a little before six o’clock

while drinking tea in bed

I saw frenetic activity

in the white pines behind the house.

It occurred to me to wonder

if the fall wood warbler migration

had begun. I got the binoculars,

but by then the birds were, as usual, gone.

It’s only August 12

but it’s time to go, or so say those
